On 15th September 2018, MRDM 2018-19 students led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somsak Srisontisuk visited to Population and Community Development Association (PDA) in Ban Phai district of Khon Kaen Province, Thailand.
Ban Phai PDA is a non-governmental organization with a total of 50 staff. It was founded initially as water resource development center which later merged with community-based integrated rural development (CBIRD) center. Its main activities include family planning activities, development of quality of life, water management, forest and nature conservation and rural development activities.
Director of Ban Phai CBIRD center, Mr. Wasant Monklang, said, “Our objective is to develop the potential of the villagers in the development activities to create a community institution with respect to demand and long-term plan of the community.”
In this one-day trip, students were able to visit the center, “Cabbages & Condoms” restaurant, Baan Chuka Khok and Baan Lan villages to study community development activities such as organic vegetables farming and water supply management.
