On 5th of August 2019, under the leadership of Prof.Dr.Somsak Srisontisuk, the class of Masters of Rural Development Managements 2019/2020 of Khon Kaen University visited two local cooperatives, Dairy Cooperative and Nong Song Hong Credit Union . The students from many countries such as:Republic of Indonesia,The Republic of Maldives,Socialist Republic of Vietnam,the People's Republic of China. This is the first of many other field trips this class will take part in the course of their program. The main purpose of this field trip is to understand the working mechanisms and to study the success, as well as the challenges these local cooperatives are facing in the real world. In addition to this, the students have observed how local cooperatives and community projects can be beneficial in the rural development in particular countries. Also, how these cooperatives can be used a tool to empower and generate money for the community by being part of a team.
During the visit to Khon Kaen Dairy Cooperative, the manager and the asst. manager of the cooperative gave information about the management, products and the markets they are focusing on production and the quality of the milk and milk products. Moreover, the students were given a tour around the factory where more questions were answered about the cooperative.
After the visit to Diary cooperative, the students then visited the Nong Song Hong credit union. The information about the Credit Union was given by the chairman and manager, who were extremely helpful to understand how Credit Unions worked and how they have expanded their business with a rice milling project and brick-selling business to their members. The students were shown around where these processes took place. The students also bought the famous Jasmine Rice the cooperative produces.
Both field trips have been highly informative and significantly important to the students of the program. The students took information with them on how this can be applied to their own country in the future.
